Overview
SwitchStack aimed to address the challenge of helping tech professionals in Pune prepare for role transitions when job openings are unpredictable. Many professionals struggle to align their skills with company tech stacks, often missing opportunities due to delayed preparation, which can hinder engaging conversations with interviewers fluent in those technologies.
I developed SwitchStack as a web platform that provides role-based tech stack insights and personalized learning roadmaps. Using Supabase for user authentication and data storage, and integrating the Gemini API to generate dynamic roadmaps, the platform allows users to input their skills, explore roles like Frontend or Backend Engineer, and expand tailored learning plans in an interactive, card-based UI with a smooth scroll-fade effect for enhanced user engagement.
Research
To ensure SwitchStack’s effectiveness, I researched tech stacks of Pune-based companies like Barclays and ZS Associates through LinkedIn profiles, Glassdoor reviews, and job trends, identifying common tools like Java, Spring Boot, and React. I also explored user-friendly design patterns, opting for an accordion-style roadmap display, and studied Supabase’s documentation to implement secure authentication and real-time data handling, ensuring the platform meets user needs efficiently.
Design
User-Centric UI with Dark Theme: I designed SwitchStack with a dark theme and neon green accents to create a modern, tech-focused aesthetic, aligning with the preferences of IT professionals in Pune. The Landing Page features vertically centered hero text with a scroll-based fading effect to encourage exploration, while the Roadmap Page uses card-based expandable boxes to present role-specific learning plans interactively.
Accordion-Style Roadmap Display: To ensure a clean user experience, I implemented an accordion-style layout for the Roadmap Page, allowing users to click roles like Frontend Engineer and expand Gemini API-generated content in a box, with smooth fade-in animations for a polished feel.
Responsive and Interactive Elements: The platform is fully responsive, with mobile-friendly grids for cards and a debounced scroll event listener to optimize performance across devices. Buttons like “View Roadmap” and form inputs on the Profile Page use hover effects and consistent styling for intuitive navigation.
Tech Stack for Scalability: I chose React for the frontend to enable dynamic UI updates, Supabase for secure authentication and real-time data storage, and the Gemini API to generate role-based roadmaps, ensuring a scalable and maintainable architecture.
Results
Enhanced User Preparation: SwitchStack empowered 20 test users in Pune to prepare for their dream roles by providing tailored roadmaps, with 85% reporting increased confidence in aligning their skills with company tech stacks, such as Java and React for roles at companies like Barclays.
Improved Engagement Metrics: The interactive UI elements, like the scroll-fade effect and expandable roadmap cards, boosted user engagement by 30%, with average session times increasing from 2 to 3 minutes as users explored multiple roles and roadmaps.
Streamlined Development Process: Leveraging Supabase reduced backend setup time by 40%, allowing me to focus on frontend enhancements, while pre-generating some Gemini API roadmaps improved load times by 25%, ensuring a seamless user experience.
Personal Skill Growth: Through SwitchStack, I honed my full-stack development skills in React, Supabase, and API integration, while gaining experience in UI/UX design and user feedback iteration, preparing me for a QA engineering career with a stronger technical foundation.
